Summary
Introduction: pages 3- 5
Deku unleashes smokescreen to escape. It gets blown away by Bakugou.
Development: pages 6 – 16
Operation Save-a-Deku commences. Koda sends animals at Deku. Then tells him that he can come back to UA.
Deku tries to escape with black whip. Sero catches it, and Jirou comes up with assist and attacks with Heartbeat Wall. Deku dodges that shit. Jirou talks about how she appreciates that Deku helped her with the school festival. Talk no jutsu not effective. Then, Tailman shows and unleashes Talk no Jutsu about the sports festival. Again, talk no jutsu not effective. Deku remembers Eraserhead, Gran Torino, and Bakugou getting hurt in the PLF battle. Then, he says he left because he can’t let AFO take them away from him. Then we get Tokoyami Style: Dynamic Entry. He and Deku crash into a building. Sugarman catches Tailman and Jirou, then pleads with Deku to hear them out or he won’t help him with food dye for Eri’s candy apples.
Deku says Eri does not need him. Then gets ambushed by Momo’s creation. He breaks out. Denki shows up grapples him and tells him that he has more important things in his life than OFA. Tentacole wraps them up in insulating tape. Tokoyami unleashes his new move Ragnarok: Womb. Tokoyami talks about Deku’s idea on how to use Dark Shadow in the Sports Festival help him create this new move. Tentacole bluntly asks if he sees them as people that need protection. Denki inserts some comedic relief. Deku escapes.
Twist: page 17
Here we get Deku’s thoughts on their actions. He understands their concern. He just can’t accept it right now.
Conclusion: pages 18 – 19
Shouto uses Heaven Piercing Ice Wall to trap Deku. Comments that he should share his burden with them. Froppy shows up. Drops straight bars. Saying, he matters to her, friends are their for each other, and if he wants to be a superhero, then 1-A won’t let him do it alone.
Impressions
Here are a few panels that stuck out to me.
Bakugou comments that Deku is drawn differently. This is a callback to the first chapter where Deku comments that All Might is drawn differently. However, Deku’s look now does not really resemble what one would expect of a hero.
There was a lot of jokes on twitter about Deku being stinky before this chapter released. I wonder if Horikoshi saw them and decided to make it canon.
This was my favorite moment. It shows their resolve to support Deku. I like that, because I don’t think it was wrong for Deku to try save people while searching for AFO.
Final Thoughts
The chapter title is “Deku vs. Class A” and that sums up the chapter. While Deku was trying to escape rather then fight them. It was a battle of what Deku wants to do vs what they want do. Deku wants to go at it alone. They want to support him or bring him back to the school. This chapter had a lot of fan service in terms of utilizing supporting characters alongside other main characters in the series. There was a lot of new moves shown by various characters. I was surprised by how much of the class was depicted in trying to get through to Deku. Much more surprised by how well coordinated their efforts were since they just arrived on the scene not that long ago. I doubt they had time to scope out the area, so their ability to work together in that situation was impressive. I look forward to the next chapter.
